Some Possibly Devastating Changes
So as you guys know, I've been looking into adding a new theme, and a shocking tidbit of info has thrown itself ruthlessly into my face. I cannot transfer the forum.
Meaning, as I had been secretly planning on setting up a vbulletin or CSS forum and converting all files over to it before routing this address to it and purchasing a domain; I wouldn't be able to transfer topics, userfiles, postcounts, or stats, we would be starting over almost completely. I could manually transfer some of the more popular RPGs and such, but the stats would be screwed.
So I'd like to send a big f*ck you to forumotion!
I have two options here, abandon the endeavor and purchase a domain for this forum and pray the browsers recognize it as a legitimate forum, or, go through the trouble of setting up the second forum and hope its not a waste of money.
So I'm sure your sitting there, "Why the hell do we have to screw with what's not broken?" Well, let me put it like this: People don't like freeforums. They think its stupid, cheap, and 'noobish', mainly because its free and anyone can make one. It take so much more for a freeforum to become successful than it does for a paid/subscribed forum. I am personally shocked that this forum has actually gotten seven active members (thanxz guiz), but if we want to become popular among the literature community, we've gotta either start advertising heavily (which I already do, and I know inSYNC does as well), or get a domain and try to move our name further up on the search engine lists.
This will hinge on how many views we get in a day, how many members we have, and how many posts there are on the forum, we're nearing one hundred members, which will shoot us up above alot of the other freeforums out there, but we'll still be far behind others.
So here's the user input part. Do we need a new forum? This one functions fine and we've got a good thing going, do we really need to risk wrecking that just to get higher up on a list? Or should we just double down and try to get the name of the forum out there?
So, this is completely up to you guys. I will happily purchase a domain for this forum, but I have to know you guys will put the effort into getting more members so I'm not losing my moneys.
That's it, just something to ponder on. If anyone is confused or needs clarification, just say so.

Re: Some Possibly Devastating Changes
I, personally, love this site JUST the way it is!
So many of the few good things in my life have been destroyed by changing too much, or becoming overly popular, and I'm content as a cucumber to leave it as is!

So are you sharing your account with grape? His MadOne and Grapeinthesun accounts haven't been online at all.
Alright, if we keep up the heavy advertising, we can get this forum successful, even though it is indeed a freeforum.
So, gonna purchase the domain here in about a week, depending on if I can activate my paypal or not lol.
Which is where our next dilemma comes in. What domain do we want? Give me alot of options in case some are taken.
we've got .com .net .org extensions, so start coming up with names.
exrpg.com/.net/.org
extremerpg.com/.net/.org
Those are of course the obvious first choices, but if anyone has anything more...unique.

Re: Some Possibly Devastating Changes
Just stick with the .com and .net sorta thing... might look a little dodgy having alternate suffixes. But then again, it totally depends how much it'll cost at the end of the day.

Re: Some Possibly Devastating Changes
